The Baraboo Hills Scenic Drive is highlighted as a primary motorcycle route connecting Devil’s Lake, Baraboo, and Sauk Prairie, according to an announcement on Mar. 19. The drive features a loop along Wisconsin Highway 113 and Sauk County Road DL, offering scenic views and access to several local attractions.
This route is notable for its combination of natural beauty and recreational opportunities. Riders can experience the savannah of the Sauk Prairie, the Baraboo Bluffs, and landmarks such as Circus World and Devil’s Lake State Park.
The suggested journey begins at Circus World in Baraboo, travels east on Highway 113 over the Baraboo Range, then turns onto Highway DL toward Parfrey’s Glen State Natural Area. Parfrey’s Glen offers hiking trails with sandstone and quartzite formations as well as a stream-fed waterfall. Continuing past Devil’s Head Resort in Merrimac, riders can try the steep climb of Devil’s Delight road for elevated views before proceeding to Owen Park Road.
The Great Sauk Trail is accessible via a short stretch of Highway 113 leading to Marsh Road and Highway DL near Devil’s Lake’s south entrance. This paved trail runs parallel to the Wisconsin River through Sauk City and Prairie du Sac into the Sauk Prairie Recreation Area. The area includes reclaimed land from the former Badger Army Ammunition Plant with unpaved loops suitable for dual-sport and adventure motorcycles.
Other recommended routes include Rustic Road 21 in Natural Bridge State Park for gravel riding and the Lower Wisconsin River Road Scenic Byway along Highway 60 from Lodi to Prairie du Chien for river views.
These routes provide options for motorcyclists seeking fresh air, scenic landscapes, and varied riding experiences throughout Sauk County.
