During the first quarter of 2026, Orchard Manor was identified as Grant County’s second largest nursing home, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.
Records show the facility offered 74 beds, surpassing the Grant County average by 13 beds for that period. The nursing home cared for an average of 48.5 residents during these months.
The CMS awarded Orchard Manor an overall rating of 5 out of 5, which topped the statewide nursing home average of 3 in Wisconsin.
For the quarter, Edenbrook of Platteville emerged as the largest nursing home in the county with 80 beds available, followed by St. Dominic Villa, which provided 62 beds.
By the end of the first quarter of 2026, Orchard Manor had incurred $22,425 in fines and received two penalties.
In total, Grant County, Wisconsin, had one public nursing home as of the first quarter of 2026.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate that the nation’s older adult population is rising as younger cohorts shrink. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older grew by 13%, while the population under 18 dropped by 1.7%. Over the past 100 years, the older adult segment has seen major growth, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million as of 2024.
A study from 2021 found that close to half of this group, about 28 million people, may need long-term services and support—with projections suggesting more than one-third will ultimately need nursing home care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
