Sauk County Baraboo School District welcomed most students in 2023-24 school year

Baraboo School District had the highest enrollment among Sauk County districts, welcoming 2,708 students during the 2023-24 academic year, according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2023-24 school year, 52% of them were boys, and 48% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 95.3% of the Baraboo School District’s total enrollment.

Among the six districts in Sauk County, Sauk Prairie School District ranked second in enrollment numbers with 2,686 students, while Reedsburg School District welcomed 2,597 students and ranked third in the 2023-24 school year.

Baraboo School District roughly covers schools within Sauk County, with its main office in Baraboo.

In the previous school year, Sauk Prairie School District had the highest number of students among Sauk County districts.

Nearly 830,000 students were enrolled in Wisconsin schools in the 2021-22 school year. This is a 0.85% decrease from the year before. In sharp contrast to declining public school figures, enrollment in charter schools rose 4.5% to more than 52,000.

In 2022, there was roughly one teacher for every 14 students in a Wisconsin classroom, compared to the national average of 1:16. AAA State of Play considered Wisconsin to have the 14th best teacher to student ratio in the U.S.
