FOIA Request to Village of Merrimac Regarding New Voter Registrations on November 7, 2024.
As a part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at SW Wisconsin News have submitted a request under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., for records pertaining to new voter registrations that took place on November 5, 2024.
The importance of access to public records cannot be overstated in our role as media professionals. It is through these records that we are able to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
We believe that as a media organization dedicated to gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver. This request is part of our continued effort to ensure transparency in our democratic processes and provide our readers with the most accurate information possible.
We await a response from the Village of Merrimac regarding this request.
