FOIA Request Sent to City of Prairie Du Chien Regarding New Voter Registrations on November 7, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin, on November 7, 2024. The request was made by SW Wisconsin News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The FOIA request specifically sought records of new voter registrations that occurred on November 5, 2024. As part of our commitment to transparency and public accountability, we at SW Wisconsin News believe it is essential to have access to such public records.

Our goal in requesting this information is not only to ensure the accuracy and comprehensiveness of our news coverage but also to hold public institutions accountable. We aim to provide the public with transparency about the operations of their local government.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we have requested a fee waiver for this information under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq. This law allows for fee waivers for entities that disseminate information to the public.

We await a response from the City of Prairie Du Chien regarding our request and will continue our efforts to provide thorough and accurate coverage of local governmental affairs.
