A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Westfield on November 7, 2024. The request, issued by SW Wisconsin News, sought details regarding new voter registrations that occurred on November 5, 2024.
As a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at SW Wisconsin News believe in the importance of transparency and accountability. Access to public records such as these is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities.
The specific request was made under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and asked for a list of voters who registered on Election Day. We expressed preference for receiving this information in an electronic format for ease of access and analysis.
In line with our role in gathering and reporting news to the public, we also requested a fee waiver as a media professional. This is based on our commitment to providing important information to the public and ensuring that institutions remain accountable.
We await a response from the Town of Westfield and will continue to work towards promoting transparency in local government affairs.
