A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Winfield in Wisconsin on November 7, 2024. The request, made by SW Wisconsin News, sought information regarding new voter registrations that occurred on November 5, 2024.

As a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at SW Wisconsin News believe access to public records is crucial for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

In our request, we emphasized our role as a media outlet involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. We stated that given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

The request was made under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and we expressed a preference for receiving the requested records in an electronic format.

We continue to wait for a response from the Town of Winfield regarding this matter. As always, we remain committed to bringing you the most accurate and up-to-date information on local government affairs.
