A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Armenia regarding new voter registrations on November 7, 2024. The request, made by SW Wisconsin News, sought detailed records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq.
The specific request was for a list of new voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024. As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at SW Wisconsin News believe that access to such public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities.
Our roles as journalists involve gathering and reporting news to the public, holding public institutions accountable, and providing transparency. Given these responsibilities and our commitment to disseminating information, we requested a fee waiver as media professionals in accordance with standard practices.
We await the response from the Town of Armenia regarding this request and will continue to strive for transparency and accountability in all matters concerning local governance.
