A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Clinton, Wisconsin on November 7, 2024. The request, made by us at SW Wisconsin News, sought detailed information about new voter registrations.
In our commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we requested a list of new voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024. This information was requested under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and we expressed a preference for receiving the data in an electronic format.
As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await a response from the Town of Clinton regarding this FOIA request. We will continue striving towards our mission of keeping our readers informed about local government activities and ensuring transparency in all public affairs.
