A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town Of Watterstown, Wisconsin, on November 7, 2024. The request, made by SW Wisconsin News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought information about new voter registrations.
Specifically, we at SW Wisconsin News requested a list of new voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024. This request was made under the provisions of the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., with a preference for receiving the data in an electronic format.
As part of our ongoing commitment to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to such public records is essential. Given our role in disseminating information to the public as a media organization, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We continue to work diligently in gathering and reporting news that affects our community and remain committed to promoting transparency within our local government. We await the response from the Town Of Watterstown regarding this FOIA request.
