CITY OF CUBA: Mayor's Message

Speaker

City of Cuba issued the following announcement on July 31

We begin August on the same roller-coaster ride with the COVID 19 virus as we have been facing since early March.  When will things get back to normal or will they ever?  With the start of school just around the corner, will our kids be safe?  Will there be fall sports in our schools?  Will we see College or NFL football this year?  The questions could go on forever.  No one really knows for sure.  We need to put our faith and life in God’s hand and things will come out alright.

The Community Market in July was hampered by a bad weather forecast which limited the number of vendors in attendance.  As it turned out the weather was great and the vendors that did attend had great results.  The Vesperman ice cream truck was busy from the time it pulled in.  Hopefully the weather and the forecast will be better for August.

The Plan Commission has approved our new Comprehensive Plan-Cuba City Today & Tomorrow.  There were a few corrections that needed to be made, but now have been completed.  The final draft will go the Common Council for approval on August 5th.  The plan will guide the City for the next 10-20 years.  Thank you to all that were involved in the process.

Things are progressing on the Presidential Plaza.  Things we hope to get done this year will be as follows:  New WIFI at the plaza, a street mural, and several other items we will let you know after the Council meeting on August 5th.  The Plaza will be a central point for games, social events, a meeting place, concerts, and many other things in the future.

The COVID 19 pandemic is still causing havoc as we try to open for business.  With schools debating whether to open or not with the new cases continuing to rise each day, it puts everyone in a bad position.  Grant County seems to be one of the counties where the numbers are continuing to rise.

Well after three months of waiting, the Cuba City Class of 2020 will graduate on Friday night out-doors.  These students have lost out on so many things due to COVID 19.  They weren’t able to complete their sports seasons.  There was no prom.  They weren’t able to enjoy their last few days of high school.  I congratulate and commend each graduate for what have endured over the last five months.  I wish you nothing, but the best life has to offer in your future endeavors.

As I close once again for another month, I want to wish everyone in the city a safe and healthy month.  We will be forced with a lot of decisions during the month and we ask for God’s guidance.  Be Safe!
