Fall harvest season has arrived in Wisconsin, and with it comes an increase in farm machinery on the roads. State Senator Joan Ballweg emphasizes the importance of staying alert and cautious to ensure safety for both farmers and drivers. She advises drivers to be aware of their surroundings, exercise caution when passing farm equipment, and slow down when approaching them.

In addition to harvest season safety, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds hunters that the state's 2023 pheasant season is set to open on October 14th. Hunters will need a valid small game license and a 2023 Pheasant Stamp to participate. The daily bag limit of one rooster per day will be in place over the opening weekend, and it will increase to two roosters per day starting on October 16th. Hunters are also advised to check the legal shooting hours for specific hunting properties.

The DNR plans to stock approximately 75,000 pheasants from the state game farm on over 80 properties statewide. To help hunters locate these properties, the DNR offers the Fields and Forest Lands Interactive Gamebird Hunting Tool (FFLIGHT), which provides aerial maps and other tools to make hunting trips more productive.

However, it is important to note that Cadiz Springs State Recreation Area and Liberty Creek Wildlife Area will not have pheasants released this season due to changing habitat conditions. Hunters can check the status of specific properties on the DNR's Pheasant Stocking Information webpage.

The DNR also reminds hunters to practice TAB-K while hunting: treat every firearm as if it is loaded, always point the muzzle in a safe direction, be certain of your target and what's beyond it, and keep your finger outside the trigger guard until ready to shoot. It is also encouraged for hunters to wear blaze orange or pink for increased visibility.

Apart from hunting, Wisconsin residents can also look forward to various local events happening in October. Some of these events include "Pumpkins in the Park-ing Lot" in Portage, "Ice Age Slow Flow" in Portage, and a "Free Movie" in Adams. Other events such as the "Rake for the Lake" in Green Lake and the "Montello Lions Haunted Hay Ride" are also scheduled.

To stay up to date with Senator Joan Ballweg's work in Madison, you can follow her on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. For more information on hunting seasons, regulations, and helpful tips, visit the DNR's website.

As harvest season continues and the 2023 pheasant season opens, it is crucial for everyone to prioritize safety and follow the guidelines provided. By doing so, both farmers and hunters can enjoy a successful and safe season.
