FOIA Request to Lafayette County Sheriff's Department Regarding Arrest Records on October 22, 2024.
In our continued commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at SW Wisconsin News have submitted a request for public records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq.
Our request specifically seeks all arrest records from January 1, 2024, to the present day. We are particularly interested in obtaining data points such as the arrestee's name, sex, race, age, date of birth (DOB), citizenship status, booking ID, date of arrest and booking photo. Additionally, we have asked for the names of arresting officers involved in each case along with details about the type and location of crime committed and its date.
As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to these records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. In line with this mission and given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await response from the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department regarding this request and will continue to keep our readers informed about local governmental affairs.
