A FOIA request was sent to Iowa County regarding the release of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) logs on October 7, 2024. We at SW Wisconsin News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, have formally requested these records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq.
The request specifically asks for a list of FOIA logs that were sent to the county from January 1, 2024, until October 7, 2024. The fields we are seeking in these logs include the requester's name and organization, the content of their request, the date their request was made and completed, as well as the status of their FOIA application.
As a news organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
