Patrick Dennis Bowlen was born on February 18, 1944, in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He later moved to Canada, where he worked as a lawyer and business executive. Bowlen earned degrees in business and law from the University of Oklahoma. He played football at the collegiate and junior levels. In 1984, he purchased a majority stake in the Denver Broncos and served as CEO until 2014. Under his ownership, the team won three Super Bowls. He also held ownership in other Colorado-based sports franchises, including the Colorado Crush and Denver Outlaws. Bowlen was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019. He contributed to sports and youth development in the Denver area. Though he spent most of his life in Canada and Colorado, his early roots were in Prairie du Chien, where he attended Campion High School. Bowlen died on June 13, 2019, from a pulmonary embolism.
