The Upland Hills Health Board of Trustees has appointed Dr. Mark Thompson as the new president and chief executive officer, succeeding Lisa Schnedler, who is retiring after 12 years with the organization. This decision follows a comprehensive national search that attracted over 140 applicants.

Dr. Thompson brings more than 25 years of experience in healthcare leadership, having previously served as market president for Essentia Health's western district. His past roles include positions at SSM Healthcare and Monroe Clinic. He will assume his new responsibilities on September 15.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Dr. Thompson stated, “I am honored to accept the role of president and CEO at Upland Hills Health and am deeply inspired by the organization’s exceptional culture and unwavering dedication to excellence.” He added that he is committed to advancing Upland Hills Health's mission of providing high-quality care to rural communities.

Jim Massey, chairman of the Upland Hills Health Board of Trustees, highlighted Dr. Thompson's qualifications: “We are very fortunate to have found a leader of Dr. Thompson’s caliber to help carry out our mission of providing the safest and best possible experience for every patient we serve.”

Dr. Thompson holds an M.D. from Michigan State University and has served in various capacities throughout his career, including as a faculty family medicine physician in the U.S. Air Force and program director for Fox Valley Family Medicine Residency through UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health.

Upland Hills Health operates a hospital in Dodgeville along with seven primary care clinics, offering services such as primary care, specialty care, emergency/urgent care, home health, and hospice services. The organization is currently undertaking renovation projects aimed at expanding its facilities.

Dr. Thompson plans to relocate into the UHH service area with his wife Rebecca and their three adult sons.
