June marked a significant month for the Baraboo community with two major events, the Big Top Parade and the Chamber Golf Classic, taking place within a span of ten days. Both events were noted for their success and favorable weather conditions.
The Big Top Parade on June 14 attracted approximately 25,000 spectators to downtown Baraboo. The parade featured 76 units, including circus wagons, horse teams, marching bands, clowns, and community floats. A highlight this year was The Wheelmen group leading the parade on antique big-wheeled bicycles. George Althoff acknowledged the extensive planning efforts by the Chamber’s Big Top Parade Committee, Circus World, and city personnel: "To all of those parties, we extend a rousing thank you."
Financial support came from over two dozen businesses. Key sponsors included Baraboo State Bank as presenting sponsor along with MAX-FM/Civic Media and others. Volunteers also played a crucial role in executing the event successfully.
The Chamber Golf Classic took place on June 24 at Baraboo Country Club. Despite forecasts predicting rain and a wet course from previous showers, the event proceeded without any rainfall disrupting play. The tournament involved 145 golfers and featured raffle prizes and auction items donated by members. Participants enjoyed a meal at Fore Seasons Restaurant.
Baraboo State Bank served as presenting sponsor for this event too, alongside other sponsors like Sysco Foods and Tumbled Rock Brewery & Kitchen. Althoff expressed gratitude towards volunteers: "Without volunteers, we’d be in trouble."
Both events concluded successfully as organizers now look forward to upcoming activities in July.
