Baraboo is preparing for a series of fall festivals and events that highlight both its natural scenery and local culture. The region, known for its tree-covered hills, offers views of autumn foliage at locations such as Devil’s Lake State Park and Ski Hi Fruit Farm.
The festival season begins with Baraboo Oktoberfest on Saturday, September 20. The event will be held at Circus World, the historic site where the Ringling family started their circus enterprise. Attendees can expect live music, locally brewed Oktoberfest beers, and food trucks serving traditional German fare including bratwurst, pretzels, and schnitzel.
Downtown Baraboo will host Fair on the Square on October 11. Artisans from the area will set up in the city’s business district to sell unique gifts.
Later in October, the Fall Art Tour will take place from October 17-19. During this event, about three dozen artists will open their studios to visitors. This gives people a chance to see artists at work while also exploring various parts of Baraboo.
In nearby North Freedom, the Mid-Continent Railway Museum is offering Autumn Color Rides on historic train cars during two weekends: October 4-5 and 11-12.
Visitors seeking accommodations have several options in Baraboo. These include the new Fairfield Inn & Suites for those preferring modern amenities; Fireside Cabins for a rustic stay; or rooms at Ho-Chunk Casino’s hotel for guests interested in gaming during their visit.
