A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Fennimore on November 7, 2024. The request, made by us at SW Wisconsin News, seeks information regarding new voter registrations that occurred on November 5, 2024.
As a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we are committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities.
In the request, we asked for a list of new voters who registered on Election Day in an electronic format under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq. We believe this information is vital in maintaining an open and transparent electoral process.
We have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional given our role in disseminating information to the public. This is part of our ongoing effort to ensure that all citizens have access to crucial information about their government's activities.
