On October 7, 2025, a deputy from the Sauk County Sheriff's Office stopped a vehicle on Highway 136 in the Town of Baraboo after noticing equipment violations. The driver, identified as Eric J. Bratland, 47, from rural Baraboo, showed signs of impairment and had open intoxicants in the vehicle, according to the sheriff's office.

Standardized field sobriety tests were administered. The deputy determined there was probable cause to arrest Bratland for Operating While Under the Influence (OWI), marking his fifth offense. Bratland was taken to the Sauk County Jail.

The sheriff's office reported that additional charges, including felony bail jumping and other traffic violations, were referred to the Sauk County District Attorney’s Office. Wisconsin Probation and Parole also issued a warrant for Bratland’s arrest, and he is being held on that warrant.
