Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts has announced its 2025 Scherbarth Residency Program lineup, featuring three artists-in-residence: Penelope Cake, Katie Hogan, and Meghan Rosing. These artists will spend time in Mineral Point, Wisconsin during February and March to further their work and engage with the local community.

The Scherbarth Residency is a two-week program awarded to artists in visual, performing, and literary arts who are willing to share their work publicly and contribute stewardship hours at Shake Rag Alley. The center provides lodging, studio space, and opportunities for interaction with its creative community.

Penelope Cake will visit from Cape May, New Jersey in late February. She is working on "The Library Project," a book that draws inspiration from her experiences at libraries. Cake holds a BA in dance from Bennington College and has pursued graduate coursework at Bank St. School of Education in New York City. During her residency, she plans to offer a public program through the Mineral Point Public Library.

Katie Hogan and Meghan Rosing will arrive at the end of March. Hogan focuses on human portraiture using oils and mixed media. She has been part of Atwood Atelier School & Studio for five years and manages the Art Hub gallery in Cambridge, Wisconsin. Hogan intends to paint residents of Mineral Point as part of her project.

Meghan Rosing's art involves reusing materials influenced by folk and outsider art traditions. Her ongoing series "A Woman’s Work Is Never Done" features portraits of women like Lizzie Borden and Typhoid Mary among others. Rosing's work reflects themes related to these women's stories.

The Scherbarth Residency is supported by an endowment from Jim Scherbarth, providing artists with resources needed for creation while fostering connections within Mineral Point's artistic network.

Shake Rag Alley also hosts other events such as the Winter Writers Reading Series throughout March featuring authors like Patty Cisneros Prevo via Zoom on March 6th, Bob Wake on March 13th, along with Katharine Beutner and Emma Binder on March 20th at Republic of Letters Books.

Additionally, there is a Driftless Poets Workshop scheduled for March 12th aimed at supporting poets seeking feedback on their work.
