Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts in Mineral Point, Wisconsin, is preparing for its summer youth program beginning in June. For over two decades, Shake Rag Alley has been providing creative opportunities for artists of all ages. Initially starting as an after-school arts and crafts program, it continues to thrive with support from the United Fund of Iowa County, Mineral Point Community Chest, and other local partners.
The summer program kicks off on June 9 with a workshop called Cork and Twig Birdhouse. Other activities include Pink Eraser Block Printing, Tinker Lab, Youth Blacksmithing, Let's Make Mosaics, Cementimals, Finger Knitting & Arm Knitting, Soap Carving, Steampunk Owls, among others.
The summer will also feature three five-day camps. Craft Camp: Birdie Bonanza is scheduled for June 23-27 where students will create birdhouses and related crafts while learning about birds. The camp participants will also make costumes for the Mineral Point 4th of July parade. From July 14-18, tweens and teens can join Finding Your Unique Story with Jeremy Payne to explore storytelling and creative expression. Additionally, the Free Arts Camp returns from July 21-25 with a dinosaur theme where students engage in dinosaur-themed arts and crafts.
A new addition this year is Teen Glassblowing where students work with hot glass at temperatures starting at 2000 degrees to create unique objects.
