The Richland Hospital and Clinics has announced the addition of Dr. Damilola Adesanya to its medical team, filling a position for a family practice physician with expertise in obstetrics. Dr. Adesanya is originally from Nigeria and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. Most recently, she worked at PCC Community Wellness Center in Illinois as a Perinatal and Child Health Fellow, focusing on high-risk and surgical obstetrics.

Brian Puls, vice president of clinic services at The Richland Hospital and Clinics, commented on the new hire: “We are excited Dr. Adesanya will join our family medicine group while also providing obstetrics and C-section skills,” he said. “She is ready for the quieter, more community-oriented setting we offer her.”

Dr. Adesanya shared her approach to patient care: “My favorite part of patient care is collaboration to meet patients’ health goals, to make sure they feel empowered in making informed decisions, and to support them through tough moments in their health journey.” She added that working in a rural environment was important for her professional growth: “The cordial and genuine staff made me feel most welcome during my interview,” she said. “During my job search, I was looking for a supportive place where I could grow professionally while practicing broader scope family medicine. In a rural setting, I can use a wide range of skills and keep obstetrics in my practice.”

During her fellowship training, Dr. Adesanya spent time working in the maternity ward in Arusha, Tanzania. Reflecting on that experience she stated: “I experienced all aspects of rural life,” expressing eagerness to return to such an environment.

Dr. Adesanya graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education at City College of New York and earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Health Sciences University. She will begin seeing patients later this fall.
