Congressman Tom Tiffany has put forth a bill to rename the Necedah Post Office in Wisconsin as the "Sergeant Kenneth E. Murphy Post Office Building," as a tribute to Sergeant Murphy's valor during the Vietnam War. The intent behind Tiffany's proposal is to highlight Sergeant Murphy's exemplary service and courage within the community by dedicating this postal facility in his name.
According to a press release from Congressman Tiffany's office, he said, "Sergeant Murphy’s heroism and devotion to his fellow service members and our great nation deserve to be honored. This Necedah postal renaming will cement his legacy in our nation’s history."
The same press release informs that Sergeant Murphy was bestowed with the Distinguished Service Cross and a Purple Heart for his bravery in Vietnam. Reacting to this news, Murphy said, "I am honored to be considered for this prestigious nomination for the Necedah Post Office Renaming. I was born in the house I grew up and have never left Necedah."
The press release further detailed an incident on November 9, 1966, near Tuy Hoa during a search and destroy operation where Sergeant Murphy, serving as a squad leader, braved hostile fire to aid injured comrades. Despite suffering two wounds, one of them being on his head, he managed an aggressive counterattack leading his troops to break free from the enemy's trap and overpower the insurgent force. The entire Wisconsin delegation has unitedly agreed to cosponsor this bill.
Information available on Congressman Tiffany's website states that he represents Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District after winning a special election in May 2020. Before his congressional tenure, he served in the Wisconsin State Assembly and Senate for the 12th District. He was part of the Joint Finance Committee overseeing the state budget and chaired the Senate Committee on Sporting, Heritage, Mining, and Forestry. During his term of office, Tiffany emphasizes his focus on tax reduction, job growth, and safeguarding Second Amendment rights.
